Technology | Motion prediction is the process of determining the motion vector describing one image to another, and it is the key element of video compression. The proposed motion prediction technique reduces the prediction search time by establishing multiple search paths from the same starting point. It can find out the image points with the lowest comparison value on the search path. The image points are then transformed into new search points, from which a new search path is extended. Then, the new image point with the lowest comparison value is searched repeatedly until the comparison value of a point on the search path is higher than the starting point. |
Advantages | Higher prediction quality Faster search Easy to implement on hardware, high data access efficiency |
Possible applications | Video compression for digital encoding devices, such as digital video recorders, digital cameras and HD video systems |
Category | Digital broadcasting and imaging technology |
