On January 27, Nike, the American sportswear giant, filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the Japanese fashion brand A Bathing Ape (commonly known as BAPE, also known as "Ape Head" in China, also known as "An Yi Ape") in the Federal District Court of the Southern District of New York on Wednesday. Nike said that BAPE's current footwear business has been imitating Nike's iconic design.

According to the indictment, Nike said that BAPE's footwear business has been imitating Nike's iconic design, and some of the shoes are almost completely replicas of Nike Air Force 1, Air Jordan 1 and Dunk shoes.

BAPE is a famous street fashion brand that was born in Harajuku, Japan. It was founded in 1993 and then acquired by a Hong Kong fashion company.

Nike said that BAPE began to sell the first infringing footwear product in the United States in 2005. At first, its infringement was only sporadic. However, since 2021, BAPE has significantly increased the number and scope of infringement.

Nike said that it has been unable to accept BAPE's infringement, but since BAPE's recent infringement has posed a major threat to Nike, Nike must begin to take action against it.

According to the lawsuit, BAPE's design will cause confusion to potential consumers. Some consumers have called BAPE's shoes "Air Force 1s" and "Dunks".

Nike requested the court to order BAPE to stop selling infringing footwear products and ask BAPE to make compensation, the amount is currently unknown.
